Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior political figure said the attack made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
